The course
Who is this course for?
Who is this course for?
Investment professionals, commodity and energy traders, legal and policy teams, corporate strategists, and technical specialists who need a working command of the off-planet economy rather than a general-interest overview. It assumes professional literacy, but no prior background in space science or space law.
What does the course actually cover?
What does the course actually cover?
Twelve chapters on the law, economics and technology of space resources: resource rights and ownership, the commercial and legal frameworks opened by the U.S. SPACE Act 2015, the international treaty position, extraction and production realities, and the practicalities of trading beyond Earth. The full contents page is on the syllabus.
How long does it take to complete?
How long does it take to complete?
The videos themselves are just over five hours, across 73 short lessons. Quizzes, the twelve chapter exams, time with the AI tutor, and the industry briefings on the blog sit on top of that. As a working estimate, plan on six to eight weeks if you do two or three hours a week. Access is lifetime, so there is no deadline to work against.
Is the material independent and evidence-based?
Is the material independent and evidence-based?
Yes. Every claim is anchored in primary sources: NASA mission data and the treaties themselves, rather than secondary commentary or vendor material. The course takes no position on behalf of any operator or investor.
Who teaches it?
Who teaches it?
The course is written by Dr Tom James, author of Deep Space Commodities, the standard professional book on the off-planet resource economy. He has spent over thirty years in commodity and energy markets, served as Senior Energy Advisor to the U.S. Department of Defense, and founded Navitas Resources. Specialist chapters also draw on named contributing authors in law, geopolitics and exploration.
Every word spoken in the lessons is Tom's, or that chapter author's. The presenter on screen is an AI avatar, generated rather than filmed, and it is not Tom's face. We use one consistent presenter across all 73 lessons so a script can be corrected and re-rendered when the facts move, instead of booking a studio and hoping nothing changes for a year. We say this on the Human Touch page because a learner should not have to work it out three lessons in.
Is the certificate accredited or CPDS-recognised?
Is the certificate accredited or CPDS-recognised?
CPD approval is pending with The CPD Standards Office. The course has been submitted and is under assessment. Until they confirm, we do not call it accredited.
You still receive a certificate when you complete all twelve chapters. It is issued by Deep Space Commodities, it carries a public verification link anyone can check, and it comes with an exportable learning record you can submit to your own professional body. Many participants log that as evidence of professional development. Check your own body's self-certification rules to be sure.
Is there an assessment and a certificate?
Is there an assessment and a certificate?
Yes. Every lesson ends with a quick check, every chapter has a practice quiz, and a timed module exam must be passed at 80% before the next chapter unlocks. Complete all twelve chapters and you receive a certificate of completion, with a public verification link anyone can check.
The platform
What is the AI tutor, and what does it do?
What is the AI tutor, and what does it do?
It is a tutor grounded in the lesson you are watching. Pause at any point, ask a question, and the answer is tied to that moment in the transcript rather than pulled from the open internet. It is there to unpack a concept you have just heard, not to replace the teaching.
Can I trust what the AI tutor tells me?
Can I trust what the AI tutor tells me?
The tutor answers from the course material and its source documents. It is a study aid, not a source of legal or investment advice, and it is deliberately scoped to the lesson in front of you rather than free-ranging.
Does it integrate with our LMS or SSO?
Does it integrate with our LMS or SSO?
Not at the moment. The platform runs on its own, with an account per seat, and learners sign in here. LMS and single sign-on are not available today. If that is a requirement for your organisation, tell us. It is on the list of things we expect to add, and a real procurement need helps us decide when.
Can we track completion across a team?
Can we track completion across a team?
Yes, per account. Each seat has its own progress, exam results and certificate. If you bought a team pack, email info@spaceeconomy.education and we will send you a completion overview for those seats. There is no live manager dashboard yet. The record is there, and we produce it when you ask.
Can participants search or reference the material later?
Can participants search or reference the material later?
Yes. Every lesson carries a full transcript, searchable and navigable by timestamp, so the course works as a reference library after the first pass.
Access, teams and procurement
How much does it cost?
How much does it cost?
£495 for one lifetime seat. A three-seat pack is £1,425 (£475 per seat). A five-seat pack is £2,225 (£445 per seat). Six or more seats, or a private cohort, is a quote. See pricing for the plans.
Can we pay by card or purchase order?
Can we pay by card or purchase order?
Payment is by invoice and bank transfer only. Card payment is coming. If your organisation needs a purchase order or supplier onboarding, tell us and we will work to it.
What if the course isn't right for us?
What if the course isn't right for us?
See the refunds policy. It sets out the statutory right to cancel and the wider commitment on top of it.
How do we buy for a team?
How do we buy for a team?
Choose a plan on the pricing page and request an invoice. Pay by bank transfer. Once it clears, seats are unlocked with lifetime access to every lesson, the AI tutor and industry briefings. For six or more seats, contact us and we will quote.
What does “lifetime access” include?
What does “lifetime access” include?
Permanent access to all twelve chapters, your AI tutor conversation history, and industry briefings as the commercial and legal landscape develops. There is no renewal and no recurring fee.
Can seats be reassigned if someone leaves?
Can seats be reassigned if someone leaves?
Yes, when someone leaves the organisation. A seat is for one named person, not a login passed around a department. Email info@spaceeconomy.education and we will move it to their replacement.
Fair use applies. Reassignment is for genuine turnover, not a way to rotate an account through a team. If the same seat is being moved again and again, we will say no. Concurrent sharing is not allowed in any case.
Can the course be delivered as a private cohort or tailored for our organisation?
Can the course be delivered as a private cohort or tailored for our organisation?
Yes. Private cohorts, facilitated groups, and anything beyond a standard team pack are special services. Contact us with the size of the group and what you need, and we will quote. There is no self-serve invoice for that. It starts with a conversation.
Do you offer volume pricing above five seats?
Do you offer volume pricing above five seats?
Yes. For a department, a cohort or organisation-wide access, contact us and we will quote.
