Refunds and Cancellations Policy
Your statutory right to cancel, the wider refund commitment we offer on top of it, and exactly how to claim either.
Last updated 7 August 2026
Scope
This policy applies to purchases of the Deep Space Commodities course from Shift AI Technology Ltd, company number 17159725. Purchases are currently made by bank transfer against an invoice. If we add card payment later, this policy will apply to those purchases on the same terms.
It sets out two separate things: the rights the law gives you, which we cannot reduce, and the additional commitment we make on top of them, which we can and do. The statutory position comes first, because that is the part a buyer needs to be able to check.
Your statutory right to cancel
If you are a consumer, meaning you are buying for purposes outside your trade, business, craft or profession, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 apply to this purchase because it is made at a distance over the internet.
Those regulations give you 14 days to cancel and get your money back in full. The period runs from the day after the contract is made, which is the day your payment is accepted or, for an invoice purchase, the day your bank transfer clears and we confirm your access. You do not have to give a reason and you do not have to justify changing your mind.
There is a well-known exception for digital content. Where a consumer expressly asks for supply to begin during the 14-day window and acknowledges at the same time that doing so means losing the right to cancel, that right is lost once supply actually starts. This is the mechanism most online course sellers rely on to close off refunds the moment a learner opens the first lesson.
We do not currently ask you to give that consent or make that acknowledgement at checkout. Because we have not asked for it, we cannot rely on the exception. Your 14-day right to cancel therefore survives even if you have signed in and started watching lessons, and we will honour it. If we ever change the checkout to ask for that waiver, we will change this policy at the same time and the change will not apply retrospectively to anyone who has already bought.
To be complete: parts of what we sell could be characterised as a service rather than as digital content. The practical effect is similar. If you asked us to begin straight away and then cancel within the 14 days, a trader is entitled to charge for what was actually supplied up to that point. We do not make that deduction. Within the statutory window, and within our own commitment below, you get the full amount back.
Our commitment beyond the statutory minimum
Fourteen days is not long enough to judge a twelve-chapter course, so we go further.
For 30 days from the date of purchase, you can ask for a full refund for any reason or none, provided a certificate has not yet been issued to you. This is a contractual commitment, not a discretion we exercise when we feel like it. You do not have to demonstrate a fault with the course, explain what you did not like, or complete an exit survey.
The certificate condition is the one limit, and it exists for an obvious reason: passing all twelve module exams means you have consumed the entire course, and a refund at that point is a request to have it for free. If you have completed the course and there is a genuine problem with it, say so and we will deal with it on its merits rather than hiding behind this rule.
We may decline a refund where there is evidence that the material has been downloaded and redistributed, that the account has been shared, or that the same person has bought and refunded repeatedly. We would tell you why, and you could challenge it under our Complaints policy. Outside those situations, expect a yes.
After 30 days we have no obligation to refund and we will not usually do so, but we will still look at any request where something has genuinely gone wrong, including a fault in the course, a defect in an exam, or a purchase that plainly went astray. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which are separate from cancellation rights and apply where the content is faulty or not as described, are not limited by the 30 days or by anything else in this policy.
How to ask for a refund
- 1Email info@spaceeconomy.education from the address on your account, or from the address the invoice was issued to.
- 2Tell us you want to cancel or want a refund. Include your invoice number if you paid by bank transfer, or the approximate date and amount if you paid by card. You do not need to use any particular form of words, and we will not reject a request for being informally phrased.
- 3We will acknowledge within five working days and tell you whether the refund is accepted, or what else we need from you.
- 4Where a refund is due, we process it within 14 days of the day you told us you were cancelling. That is the statutory deadline for a cancellation, and we apply it to our own 30-day commitment as well.
You can also cancel by post to Shift AI Technology Ltd, Unit 14, The Maltings Industrial Estate, Southminster, Essex, CM0 7EQ, if you would rather have a paper record. Email is faster.
How the money comes back
- Card purchases are refunded to the card used, through Stripe. We cannot send it anywhere else, which is a fraud control rather than an inconvenience we have chosen. Once we issue it, the money typically reaches your account within five to ten working days depending on your bank; that part is out of our hands.
- Invoice purchases are refunded by bank transfer to the account the payment came from. If that account has closed, tell us and we will agree an alternative and confirm it with you before sending anything.
- Refunds are made in pounds sterling for the amount you paid. If your bank applied a currency conversion or a transfer fee at the time of purchase, we refund what we received and cannot recover that bank's charges for you.
- We do not charge an administration fee for processing a refund, and we do not deduct anything for the lessons you watched.
Team and multi-seat purchases
A team pack is a single contract for a stated number of seats: three seats for £1,425, or five for £2,225. Refunds are handled seat by seat rather than all or nothing.
- Within the 30-day window you can cancel any seat that has not had a certificate issued against it, and keep the rest.
- Each cancelled seat is refunded at the per-seat rate you actually paid for that pack, which is £475 per seat on the three-seat pack and £445 per seat on the five-seat pack.
- We do not reprice the seats you keep. Cancelling two seats from a three-seat pack leaves the remaining learner on the discounted rate rather than being billed the difference up to the individual price.
- Cancelling a seat removes that named person's access. If they have started the course, their progress is deleted along with the entitlement.
- We deal with the buyer of record, meaning the person or organisation that paid, not the individual learner occupying a seat. If you hold a seat your employer bought and you want it cancelled, ask your employer.
Executive cohort and enterprise arrangements are quoted individually and their cancellation terms are set out in the written quote or order for that engagement. Where the written order is silent, this policy applies.
Business purchases
We sell to individuals and to organisations, and the legal position is not the same for both, so this needs saying plainly rather than being left for you to discover.
The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 protect consumers. They do not apply where the purchase is made for the purposes of a trade, business, craft or profession. If you buy a team pack for your employer, or invoice a company, the statutory 14-day right to cancel described above is not available to you as a matter of law.
Our own 30-day commitment does apply to business purchases of individual seats and team packs. We offer it contractually, on the same terms and with the same certificate condition, because a procurement team should not have to gamble on whether a course is any good. What a business does not get is the statutory backstop behind it, and the limitation of liability in our Terms of Service is drafted differently for business customers.
A sole trader or a partner buying for their own professional development is buying for business purposes in the ordinary case, so the same distinction applies.
What a refund does to your access and your certificate
A refund unwinds the purchase. When we process one, your entitlement is withdrawn and your access to the lessons, the AI tutor and the exams ends. This is not a penalty; it is what a refund means.
If a certificate has already been issued against a refunded seat, it is revoked. The public verification page will then report it as revoked rather than valid, and anyone checking it, including an employer who has already been given it, will see that. We are not able to leave a certificate standing for a course that has been paid for and then unpaid, because the certificate asserts that the assessed course was completed under a genuine entitlement.
Your account itself is not automatically deleted, so if you buy again later your record is still there. If you want the account and its data erased as well, ask, and read the erasure section of our Privacy and Data Protection Policy first. We keep the financial record of the sale and the refund for six years because UK tax law requires it, whatever else is deleted.
Unpaid invoices, failed payments and chargebacks
- An invoice you never pay is not a debt we will chase. Access is only unlocked once the transfer clears, so an unpaid invoice simply means no access. If you have changed your mind, tell us and we will cancel it, or leave it and it will lapse. There is no cancellation fee.
- If a card payment fails at checkout, no contract is formed and nothing is owed. Stripe may show a temporary authorisation on your statement, which your bank will release.
- If a payment is reversed, recalled or fails after access has already been granted, we may suspend access until it is resolved. We will email you first and give you a chance to sort it out.
- If you raise a chargeback with your bank rather than contacting us, your access will be suspended while the dispute runs, because the funds are withdrawn from us immediately. We would much rather refund you directly, which is faster for you and cheaper for us. Contacting us first costs you nothing and does not affect your right to go to your bank afterwards.
If we say no
If we refuse a refund we will tell you the specific reason in writing rather than pointing at the policy and leaving you to work it out.
You can then escalate under our Complaints policy, which sets out who reviews the decision and how long it takes. Escalating costs nothing and does not affect any other right you have.
Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights. If you are a consumer and you think we have got the law wrong, you can get free independent advice from Citizens Advice, and you retain the right to take the matter further, including to the courts. We would rather resolve it before it reaches that point, and in practice we almost always can.
